Positive Displacement Vacuum Pumps

Positive displacement vacuum pumps are used to create empty downs. This type of vacuum pump helps in expanding the cavity, thereby allowing the gas to flow out of the room. After this, the cavity is sealed causing it to discharge into the atmosphere. The main aim behind this pump is to create a vacuum so as to expand the volume of a container. One example of this type of vacuum is a diaphragm muscle, which expands the chest cavity, thereby causing the volume of the lungs to increase.

Momentum Transfer Pumps

These are those vacuum pumps where various gas molecules are speeded up by the empty side to obtain side discharge. In pressure of atmosphere and mid volumes, molecules interact with one another and respectively push their adjacent molecules – this is known as viscous flow. The molecules then try to interact with the different walls of the room quite frequently instead of some other molecules when you increase the distance between the molecules. This is considered to be more effective than positive displacement vacuum pumps and it is generally called high vacuum. The only critical difference between these two pumps is that the diffusion vacuum pumps blow out the molecules with the use of oil and on the other side turbo-molecular pumps are known for their high speed.  

Entrapment Pumps

They are the third type of vacuum pumps. Entrapment vacuum pumps generally work using chemical reactions. They are considered to run more efficiently as they are placed inside a container that has to be vacuumed. The molecules that are present in the air generally creates a light film, which is then removed from the inside surfaces of the vacuum pump by the use of Entrapment that reacts chemically. They use freezing temperatures to condense gases to solid state. To produce ultra-high vacuum, these pumps are generally used along with positive displacement vacuum pumps and momentum transfer pumps.
