How Many Microprocessors Surround you?

I read an article which spoke about how engines were a big deal at one point, but now everybody takes them for granted… For example, nobody really cares about the specs for the engine driving their washing machine, while at one point that would have been a selling point at one time (I really wish I could find the article now, if anybody knows about it, please let me know).

The article then goes on to say that once microprocessors get to this point, we will know that they have become fully integrated into our lives.

Today, for some reason, I decided to count how many of each I ahve at my house… I have only about 10 engines (washing machine, dishwasher, food processor, etc), but the microprocessor count is in its twenties (computers, cellphones, gaming systems, dvd players, washing machine, etc)… I think they are already fully integrated into our lives, to the point where we are completely unaware of them until we stop to think.

So, how many microprocessors are in your house?Technorati Tags: ,

I, too, believe we have already reached the “full integration” stage, because I think many people (including myself) would have trouble even identifying all the microprocessors in their house. If we cannot identify them, then they ARE invisible, and certainly “fully integrated”.

I never looking at my dish washer to be a micro processor. After a while society becomes completely conformed to all these bells ans whistles.
