Passive Income

There is a lot of talk in the blogosphere about passive income, with Belle, Dave Carlson
and Darren Rowse all writing about the idea. They seem to agree that while passive income is possible, blogging is not a good way to do it.

Ruben, in another article, claims that it is possible to have  a blog that will provide passive income, with the right selection of theme and niche, although it seems that this is a rare phenomenon.

I love the idea of passive income, and my eventual aim is to get to the point where my passive income is enough to provide for my needs. I do not think that blogging in itself will provide me with this, but it will provide money, which I can then re-invest to build more passive income streams.

    I agree. It is very hard to earn passive income with blog. Bloggers have to keep on working to update their blogs to attract new and returned visitors to make money. Unless the blog is ranking top 5 in Yahoo that you’ll gain passive traffic and income from Yahoo. For Google, I think passive income isn’t possible as they usually give high ranking to blogs that are updating often only.

    Passive income is VERY possible online. Can you do it with blogging? I am 100% sure you can . Have I done it with blogging? No. However my goal is not to do it with blogging alone. Just like with investing you need to diversify. Look for about five different ways for passive online income and grow all five of them. Try to grow them all at the same rate. And make sure it is truly passive. For example - being a reseller of just about anything online is NOT passive. Any time you have to deal with customers, phone calls, support of anything or a merchant account instantly makes it ACTIVE income. Not passive. Also look for things that work 24/7/365. Look for things that will generate you income if you are laid up in the hospital.
