Passive Income

Posted on Monday 29 January 2007

There is a lot of talk in the blogosphere about passive income, with Belle, Dave Carlson
and Darren Rowse all writing about the idea. They seem to agree that while passive income is possible, blogging is not a good way to do it.

Ruben, in another article, claims that it is possible to have  a blog that will provide passive income, with the right selection of theme and niche, although it seems that this is a rare phenomenon.

I love the idea of passive income, and my eventual aim is to get to the point where my passive income is enough to provide for my needs. I do not think that blogging in itself will provide me with this, but it will provide money, which I can then re-invest to build more passive income streams.

MyLot Review

Posted on Sunday 28 January 2007

As some of you might know, one of my sources of income is MyLot.

MyLot is a pay-per-post forum, in which you will get paid for each conversation you start or respond to. The payments depend on the quality of your response, and on how many people respond to anew conversation. The actual algorithm used to calculate earnings is kept secret.

While you will make only a couple of cents per response or a new discussion, the actual community built up on MyLot is lively and interesting, and has a variety of topics, so whatever you feel like chatting about, it will be covered. The interesting conversations mean that regular posting becomes a pleasure, and soon you are making a bit of extra money.

In addition to being paid for each post, MyLot has a refferal program as well, where you can make 20% ofthe earnings of anybody else you sign up.

So, what are you waiting for? Go and sign up!

New Theme

Posted on Friday 26 January 2007

Well, I have switched to a new theme. The main reason for that was that my adsense ads were getting no clickthroughs, so I have decided to try a different theme, this one specifically designed for adsense. So, now I am using the SEO Adsense Wordpress Theme from Plikster. It should preform better in that aspect than my old one (its not like it can perform any worse).
I will monitor it, and see how it does in the meantime.

Continuing on the Wikipedia Nofollow Story…

Posted on Friday 26 January 2007

It looks like somebody has already written a plugin to add a nofollow tag to all wikipedia links (to be honest, I did not expect it that quickly).

You can get it here.

I am still not sure if I will use it on this blog, but for some reason I find the whole circus very amusing.

I promise I will return to posts about making money soon… Suffering a bit of writers block on that account.

NOFOLLOW tag and Wikipedia

Posted on Wednesday 24 January 2007

As most of you should know by now (unless this blog is your only source of info, in which case you really need to look around more, there a couple of better blogs out there), Wikipedia has now added nofollow tags to all its sites, so it longer passes PageRank to sites linked from it.

Andy Beal  has started a counter-campaign, encouraging people to use nofollow in all their links to Wikipedia, in an effort to drive Wikipedia’s PageRank to 0.

I will think about joining his campaign… In the meantime I will watch what happens.

I now have a blogroll!

Posted on Wednesday 24 January 2007

The more observant of you might have noticed that I have added a blogroll on the left side of this blog. At the moment, there is only one entry there, but I will add more with time.

If you want to exchange links in any way, feel free to  leave me a comment.

Review of Kumiko’s Cash Quest

Posted on Monday 22 January 2007

Kumiko’s Cash Quest is a recently started blog about a young Japanese woman’s quest to make money online (so, not that different from this blog, really).

The design of the blog is clean and simple, with very few ads to distract from the content. The articles on the blog are well written and entertaining. The most useful feature are her weekly summaries, where she mentions which programs she will keep and which ones she will drop,

I think that it is a blog worth subscribing to

I am 30

Posted on Sunday 21 January 2007

Well, I turn 30 today… I feel a bit older, although none the wiser.

If anybody feels like sending my presents:

My e-gold account:  3899382

Or, if you feel like sending me something: plosiguant _at_ gmail (you can figure out the TLD)

Well… I guess I have to start acting like an adult now.

The $100 Challenge

Posted on Friday 19 January 2007

This is a post announcing my intent to join the $100 challenge, whereby I will try to make $100 by the end of the year from this site.

I actually plan to make far more, both from this site and from other projects (which I will announce as soon as I start them), I think that this is a good start to motivate me.
